In order to facilitate and obtain more information pertaining to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers and the communities around them, an Island wide census was conducted, which spanned a period of three months (from 01st July to 30th September 2016). This indeed is a historic event as it was the first time such a census was conducted.   All local and private sector preschools were earmarked under this. Information such as the maintenance of the required standards of the preschools, details of parents, including their education levels were among the questions which were incorporated into the census.

To conduct the census successfully ECD Officers from each respective District were trained with the guidance of the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS). Throughout the period of data collection the enumerators were supervised by the Officers of the DCS. Also observation visits were done by the Officers from the PMU.
