On 21st April 2021, the Early Childhood Development Project commenced a two day interview sessions to assess candidates for scholarship for the Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Preschool for preschool teachers who have applied for the course at National Institute of Education (NIE) and the Subaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

Early Childhood Development Project is in partnership with NIE for the fourth year running and Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka for the third consecutive year in providing scholarships for candidates.

The chosen candidates are mainly voluntary preschool teachers from around the country.

As of 2021 ECD Project has provided scholarships for over 430 candidates across the country, and this year 30 candidates at NIE and 20 candidates at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka will be given the opportunity to obtain this scholarship from the ECD Project.

The ECD Project, in collaboration with the Plantation Human Development Trust, has trained over 670 preschool teachers in the Estate Sector through the National Diploma on Early Childhood Development course.

The two day session was led by the ECD PMU, with the sessions preceded over by Project Director Dr. Ravi Nanayakkara, Deputy Director Mr. Liyanarachchi and Training Specialist Mr. Madurawala. They briefed the candidates about the course structure, emphasizing the significance of this scholarship for the betterment of the future of individual candidates plus the future of the ECD sector, hence the future generations of the country. The candidates were given also informed about the very important activities carried out by ECD project for the past 5 years.

The ECD Project will continue to strengthen the ECD sector by providing more scholarships for preschools teachers in the coming years.
