Strengthening of Child Day Care services is the latest phase of the ongoing Early Childhood Development project under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs & Dry Zone Development assisted by the World Bank. The ECD Project has achieved great success in enhancing equitable access to and improve the quality of ECD services in Sri Lanka since 2016. The Government of Sri Lanka through its “Enterprise Sri Lanka” program intends to expand and improve child day care facilities and training of day care staff. The ECD Project will implement the training program as one of its new activities.

This new phase of the ECD Project aims to cover the capacity building of child day care centers service providers/caregivers mainly by providing pre-service training (NVQ 4) free of charge for personnel who expects to join the child day care center staff and those who are currently in service. The Project will target the training of 2000-2500 Child Day Care Givers.

There is a higher employment demand for Child Day Care Givers (NVQ Level 04) nationally and internationally. ECD PMU identified two highly esteemed Training Institutes, the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA), to initiate this training through a one year training program offered in these two institutes to run annually within the ECD Project period.

The Memorandum of Understanding between ECD PMU and VTA was signed on 28th June 2019.
